I remember this day well, the ocean expressed an unusual mood. I was captivated, fascinated and inspired to create something different.

When underwater near the surface I observed the top, the limit of volume. The edge between water and air was a line of pure white light recalling a video I once saw of a black hole.

I often refer to the ocean ceiling as a mirror. This day its reflection was interrupted by gliding bands, a faint breeze rippling the surface from above.

The light was gentle, caressing. I enjoyed the amorphous forms of algae growing upon the strands of chorda filum which glowed in the soft light.

I often find parallels between oceanic landscapes and cosmic or interstellar spaces. The effect of gravity is different underwater. All sea life evolved to this aquatic environment - just look at those nebulous algae, and graceful and buoyant seaweed.

It's true I love these ocean colours: burnt sienna, yellow ochre, bright white contrasting with deep dark blues and lowing turquoise. They make each other sing, amplifying each other. An underwater polyphony in colour.
