La Porte Vitrail

With this piece I was drawn by the silhouetted seaweed and the sunlit rocks beyond. I enjoyed the darkness, feeling snug, with such a warm palette. I wanted to draw the eye to the back of the painting with the bright realistic rocks and play with the silhouetted seaweed, choosing to keep them flat, illustrative. To draw the eye along the graceful lines of interwoven seaweed I used a variety of media to accentuate texture. I wanted to reinforce the form of the plants in the foreground and so drew the sun caressing the contours of the seaweed.

I saw these silhouettes as a frame work holding bright colours, an aquatic stain glass door.
